SEO for Photographers

I’ve been asked on a number of occasions by other photographers how we managed to get good Google rankings on our main website within just a few months of the site being live.  I haven’t done anything dubious or underhand, nor bought the services of any expensive SEO company (although many have offered – don’t take them up on it without doing your research).

We have a slight unfair advantage with my being an IT Consultant for 20 years and my wife being a marketing post grad, but other than that it’s just been down to hard work, research and trying things out.

So, I thought I’d assemble the basics of SEO in to a short series of articles and try and make it easy for anyone to follow.  There is no rocket science here and you probably won’t find anything you couldn’t already find on the web with a bit of your own research.  However, I’ll put it all in one place and highlight both the bits that helped us out and the things to avoid.

I’ll try and break it up in to logical steps and publish them over the next few weeks, starting this weekend.  I’ve got some great tips on viral marketing, Facebook and Twitter integration and other things which can help you promote your photography business, so I’ll get to those too.

As I create each article, I’ll drop a hyperlink below to try and keep it all together.

Hope this helps!  Jase

EDIT: It’s not easy to keep the articles short and still get the necessary info across, so I’ve split them in to more manageable chunks!  :)
